Annual Wolstein Classic Up Next For No. 20 Buckeyes

The No. 20 Ohio State Buckeyes will make their annual trip to Cleveland for the Wolstein Classic on Saturday, December 17th. The Buckeyes will face off against the Cleveland State Vikings at the Wolstein Center in downtown Cleveland, Ohio.

This will be the Buckeyes' third game of the season and their first true road test. Ohio State is coming off a thrilling 86-83 overtime win over the No. 19 Kentucky Wildcats in Columbus on Tuesday night. The Buckeyes led by just two points with under a minute to play before freshman Brice Sensabaugh hit a clutch three-pointer to put Ohio State up for good.

The Vikings are 4-4 on the season but have won their last two games. Cleveland State is led by junior guard Tre Gomillion, who is averaging 17.6 points per game. Gomillion is one of three Vikings averaging double figures in scoring, along with sophomore forward Jayson Woodrich (13.1 ppg) and senior guard Torrey Patton (12.2 ppg).

Keys to the Game

The Buckeyes will need to be ready for a physical game against the Vikings. Cleveland State is a tough, physical team that loves to rebound and play in the paint. The Buckeyes will need to do a good job of boxing out and keeping the Vikings off the boards.

Ohio State will also need to be efficient on offense. The Buckeyes have been shooting the ball well from three-point range this season, but they will need to be able to make shots inside the paint against Cleveland State's physical defense.

Finally, the Buckeyes will need to play with poise and composure. This will be their first true road game of the season, and they will need to be able to handle the pressure of playing in a hostile environment.

Prediction

The Buckeyes are a clear favorite in this game, but the Vikings are a tough team that will not go down without a fight. Ohio State should be able to win this game if they play with poise and composure, but the Vikings will make them work for it.

Ohio State 82, Cleveland State 75

Other notes

  • The game will be televised on Big Ten Network.
  • The Buckeyes are 8-1 all-time against the Vikings.
