Calais Campbell's Brother Details 'Bidding War' at Trade Deadline
Calais Campbell's brother, Jon, has spoken out about the bidding war that took place for the star defensive end in the lead-up to the NFL's trade deadline. According to Jon, several teams were interested in acquiring Campbell, with the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets ultimately emerging as the frontrunners.
Multiple Offers
Jon Campbell told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that the Jaguars and Jets both made "significant offers" for Calais. He said that the Jets, in particular, were "very aggressive" in their pursuit of the veteran pass rusher.
Ravens' Reluctance
Despite the interest from other teams, the Baltimore Ravens were reluctant to trade Campbell. The team's general manager, Eric DeCosta, said that Campbell was a "key part" of their defense and that they had no intention of moving him.
Campbell's Role
Campbell played a significant role for the Ravens this season, recording 5.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss. He helped the Ravens finish 11-4 and win the AFC North division title.
Forward-Looking
With the trade deadline now passed, Campbell is set to remain with the Ravens for the rest of the season. However, his future beyond this year remains uncertain. Campbell is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in 2023, and it remains to be seen if he will re-sign with Baltimore or explore other options.
