Mike Shanahan coaching tree: Son Kyle, Matt LaFleur face off in battle

After a heartbreaking defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the media, expressing both disappointment and pride in his team.

"It's tough to put into words right now," Shanahan said. "We worked so hard to get here, but we came up just short. There's no denying that disappointment."

Despite the loss, Shanahan praised his players for their resilience and determination throughout the season. "I'm incredibly proud of this group," he said. "They never gave up, even when things were tough. They represented our organization with class and integrity."

Shanahan acknowledged that the team has areas to improve, particularly on defense. "We need to find a way to get more consistent on that side of the ball," he said. "We gave up too many big plays."

He also emphasized the need to protect quarterback Brock Purdy better. "We can't afford to give up so many sacks," he said. "We need to improve our pass protection."

He pointed to the team's recent success, having reached the NFC Championship Game twice in the past three years. "We're headed in the right direction," he said. "We'll use this disappointment as fuel to drive us forward."

As the 49ers look ahead to the 2023 season, they will aim to build on their success and reach even greater heights. With Shanahan at the helm, the future of the franchise remains bright.
