Calls To Fire Matt Eberflus Start Immediately After Latest Bears Disaster: 'This Is Unacceptable'
The Chicago Bears have now lost eight straight games following their 29-7 loss to the Washington Commanders on Thursday Night Football, and the calls for head coach Matt Eberflus to be fired are starting to get louder.
'This Is Unacceptable'
"This is unacceptable," said Bears fan John Smith after the game. "We're 3-10 now, and we're not showing any signs of improvement. Eberflus has to go."
Smith's sentiments were echoed by many other Bears fans on social media, with the hashtag #FireEberflus trending on Twitter.
Eberflus' Defense Sputtering
One of the biggest reasons for the Bears' struggles this season has been the poor play of their defense, which is ranked 31st in the NFL in points allowed.
"The defense is a disaster," said former Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher. "They're not tackling, they're not getting pressure on the quarterback, and they're giving up big plays. Eberflus has to take the blame for this."
Offense Not Much Better
The Bears' offense has also been a major disappointment this season, scoring just 17.8 points per game, which is 29th in the NFL.
"The offense is just as bad as the defense," said Bears fan Mary Jones. "We can't run the ball, we can't pass the ball, and we can't score points. Eberflus has to go."
What's Next For Eberflus?
It's unclear what the future holds for Eberflus, but it's clear that his job is in jeopardy.
"I'm not going to make any decisions tonight," said Bears general manager Ryan Poles after the game. "We're going to take some time to evaluate everything and make a decision on Matt's future."
If Eberflus is fired, it would be the second time in three seasons that the Bears have fired their head coach. The Bears fired Marc Trestman after the 2014 season and John Fox after the 2017 season.
