Bennett, who had struggled at times this season, played the game of his life against the Volunteers. He completed 14 of 21 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns, and he added 31 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
"Stetson was incredible tonight," said Georgia coach Kirby Smart. "He made big plays when we needed them, and he kept our offense moving. He was the difference in the game."
Georgia's defense, which has been a strength all season, once again played lights out against Tennessee. The Bulldogs held the Volunteers to just 284 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers.
"Our defense was phenomenal tonight," said Smart. "They made big plays when we needed them, and they kept Tennessee out of the end zone."
Tennessee's high-powered offense, which had averaged over 45 points per game this season, was held in check by Georgia's defense. Quarterback Hendon Hooker was harassed all night, and he finished with just 195 yards passing and no touchdowns.
"Georgia's defense is one of the best in the country," said Tennessee coach Josh Heupel. "They made it really difficult for us to get anything going on offense."
With the win, Georgia improves to 8-0 on the season and remains in contention for a spot in the College Football Playoff. Tennessee falls to 7-1 and will likely need to win out to stay in the playoff race.
"This was a huge win for us," said Smart. "It shows that we can compete with anyone in the country, and it gives us a lot of confidence going forward."
