Champaign, Ill. - Kofi Cockburn led Illinois to a 79-73 victory over Arkansas in a highly anticipated non-conference matchup at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon.
Cockburn Dominates in the Paint
Cockburn, the reigning Big Ten Player of the Year, was unstoppable in the paint, finishing with 24 points and 15 rebounds. He shot an efficient 9-of-12 from the field and made several key plays down the stretch.
Arkansas Keeps it Close
Despite Cockburn's dominance, Arkansas stayed competitive throughout the game. The Razorbacks were led by JD Notae, who scored 20 points. Arkansas also hit 10 three-pointers, including six from Stanley Umude.
Illini Defense Steps Up in the Second Half
Illinois' defense tightened up in the second half, holding Arkansas to 39.1% shooting. The Illini forced nine turnovers and limited the Razorbacks to just four assists.
